DLSW Wasps Twenty20 Runners-up in 2017-2018!

The DLSW Wasps had the best season in 2017-2018, runners’ up in the Cricket Hong Kong T20 Cup as well as 3rd place in the CHK Women’s League

T20 Cup

The first game of the season was against KCC Maidens, and this was a close game. The Wasps made 94 all out batting first on 3rd September 2017 at PKVR reservoir. This was a sub par score at the ground but the Wasp bowlers made the KCC Maidens struggle to get their win and lost 8 wickets in the bargain. Akasha Yousaf took 4 wickets for 22 in her 4 ours.

In the second game Shanzeen Shahzad made a 100 against USRC and took the Wasps 256 without losing wickets. Shanzeen followed up the 100 with 3 wickets against USRC and restricted USRC to 61 runs. DLSW Wasps the second game by a massive 195 runs

The next two games were abandoned because of rain, Wasps shared points with CCC Fung Wong and HKCC Cavaliers.

The next game was on 22nd October 2017 against HKCC Willow Wielders. The HKCC Willow Wielders batted first and scored 151/3 in 20 overs. However the Wasps only managed 92 runs in reply and lost their second lost by 59 runs.

The next game against USRC, the wasps got another massive score of 222/2 in 20 overs. Mehreen Yousaf top scored with 80 runs to take the Wasps to the total. The USRC side was all out for 23 runs with Akasha Yousaf taking 3 wickets for 5 runs.

On 8th April 2018, CCC Fung Hong were the opponents for Wasps. Wasps won the toss and decided to bowl first. CCC got 105/6 in 20 overs. The Wasps batting clicked this time and won the game in 16 overs by 7 wickets. Harsha Motwani top scored with 33 runs followed by Mahreen Yousuf with 29 runs.

The next game was washed out against KCC Maidens, which lead the most exciting game of the season in the T20 league. Defending Champions HKCC Willow Wielders won put to bat by Wasps on 22nd April 2018 at PKVR Reservoir. HKCC team put on 157 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. Wasps chase began well with Mehreen Yousuf dominating the bowling and scoring freely all over till she got out retired at 80 due to injury. The last over ended with both scores being tied with DLSW Wasps also on 157/3 in 20 overs. A rare tied game.

The last game of the season was against HKCC Cavaliers which the Wasps won by 9 wickets. Chasing 72 runs, Mehreen Yousuf and Shanzeen ensured the game was won in the 10th over. The Wasps ended 2nd on the points table and were Runners up in the league.

In the Women’s League, the W

asps finished on 3rd Position with 4 wins and 4 losses. The wins were against HKCC Cavaliers (Shanzeen taking 3 wickets and making 45 runs), CCC (Maryam Bibi took 5 wickets for 33 runs), CCC (Wasps had a 123 run opening partnership between Manpreet Kaur (65 Runs) and Harsha Motwani (53 Runs) and a win by 156 runs) and a final win against HKCC Cavaliers.
