DLSW Wasps - Women's League Champions and Pride of DLSWCC


Finally after years of hardwork and efforts by the Team and Coach of DLSW Wasps. We have won the League Championship.

This has been a Herculean effort by the Team and also the Coach, Ghulam Saqlain. The Team includes many women cricketers who started playing cricket only a couple of years ago

Below is the recap of games in the 2nd half of the Historic Season

Vs HKCC Willow Wielders – 3rd February 2019 at Hong Kong Cricket Club

This game was a setback for the Wasps, winning the toss and deciding to bowl, and despite Maryam Bibi’s 4 wickets for 31 runs, Sara Young managed to hold the HKCC innings together with a magnificent 72 runs and take them to a total of 180. The Wasps got close to the target and despite starts Mehreen, Jswinder and Shanzeen, none good stay in long enough to see the innings through. The Wasps fell short on 163 and lost by 17 Runs

Vs KCC Maidens – 7th April 2019 at Kowloon Cricket Club

After a longish break the Girls came back with a strong win against KCC Maidens. The Maidens decided to bat first at the “Home” Ground. But a phenomenal bowling spell from Iqra Sahar of 6 wickets for 23 runs bundled KCC out for106 runs. Shanzeen Shahzad then lead the team to a three wicket win with a splendid 60 runs which included 10 fours .

Vs SCC Divas – 21st April 2019 at PKVR Reservoir

The Wasps decided to bowl first against Divas and Maryam Bibi almost single handedly brought the Divas to 45 all out with figures of 7 wicket for 21 runs. The score was chased with 8 wickets in 6 overs

Vs CCC Fung Wong – 1st May 2019 at PKVR Reservoir

The last game was crucial with DLSW Wasps needed the points to jump pas HKCC Cavalier to win the league. Following the winning formula the Wasps decided to bowl first after winning the toss. HK National Player Kary Chan hit a brilliant 71 runs to guide the CCC innings to 154/9 in 35 overs. Shanzeen was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets.

The Wasps were on the back foot with Shanzeen and Maryam both losing early wickets, Jaswinder and Iqra also followed quickly with the score on 64/4. It was Mehreen Yousaf who held on and ensured the game was won with her score on 48 not out. DLSW Wasps won the game in the 34th over with a 3 wickets win.

T20 Remaining Match Round Up

After covering the first 6 Games of the Season in an earlier report, below is report for the balance 6 games for a mixed bag of a T20 Season.

The 7th game in the second half of the season was played against KCC Maidens at PKVR Reservoir. This was a 522 run loss to Wasps. The 8th Game was a Washout against USRC and the 9th game was a 9 wicket win against SCC Divas. The top performer for DLSW Wasps was Maryam Bibi who took 5 wickets for 13 runs.

The 10th game was against CCC Fung Wong on 21st March 2019, which CCC won by 6 wickets. Rajvir Kaur top scored with 45 runs in the Wasps total of 133 runs in 20 Overs, but CCC was able to chase with in the 16th over thanks to a Half Century from Kary Chan.

The 11th Games was abandoned after the 1st innings began due to Rain, and the final game of the season was against HKCC Cavaliers. Chasing 134 set by the HKCC Side the DLSW Opening pair took the game without losing a single wicket. Skipper Shanzeen Shahzad ended on 99 runs not out with 18 boundaries. DLSW Wasps won by 10 wickets and this win lifted the team for the games to follow in the Women’s League which lead to history.
