Weekend Report: DLSW Sarjan impresses in Div 1, DLSW JKN drops a close game

So, the weekend of 2nd and 3rd September 2017 saw the return of cricket in Hong Kong for 2017-18 season organized by the Cricket Hong Kong. DLSWCC too started and had 5 teams playing in the opening round of matches.

Saturday 2nd September

U15 League

On 2nd, September, 2017 first up at PKVR Reservoir was the U15 League match between DLSWCC Tigers and KCC Typhoons. The tigers defeated the typhoons in a low scoring match. Tigers batted first and were slow and ended up scoring mere 110/9 in 30 allotted overs. Only Jagraj Singh, 36 runs was a notable run getter for them at the top of the order with extras, 23 the second highest. But it was our spinners who took control of things in the second innings. Hasan Mohammad, Captain Aryan Shetty, Ali Hasan and Aasim Khan bowled 19 overs together for 7 wickets at a collective economy of 3.05. Ali Hassan though bettered his colleagues with figures of 4-0-11-3. Coach Saqlain after the game said that the field was really damp and that made it difficult for both teams to score the runs.

Saturday Championship Division 1 In another game at the same time but at PKVR park DSLWCC Sarjan also won their initial encounter against a strong USRC side after having won the second tier of the Saturday competition last season to move up to the first tier. Captain Moner Ahmed Dar decided to use as many as 8 bowlers after bowling first. And the bowlers did not disappoint their captain as they restricted USRC to 156/10 in 33.3 overs. New ball partners Mohsin Khan and Usama got Sarjan team to the best start possible after picking up 3 wickets in first 3 overs. In the middle overs Saqib Mehmood bowled miserly. He bowled his quota of 7 overs, picked up 2 wickets for just 11 runs. Finally, Asif Hussain bowled a very good spell of death bowling by picking up 3 wickets for 14 runs in 4.3 overs. While chasing Amandeep looked in total control and looked to take away the game from USRC, he scored 52 of 32 balls but after he got out, Sarjan started to loose wickets rapidly. But Moner Dar the captain on the day stood alone and tall to score 84 runs not out of 51 balls to take his team over the line in 24th over.

So 2nd September was really good for us but 3rd September didn’t go as planned and we lost all the 3 matches played on the day.

Sunday 3rd September 2017

U13 League Firstly, U13 Littles were playing United Hawks at KGV and while batting first they scored 68/all-out. In reply United Hawks got the runs having lost just the 2 wickets in no time.

Womens T20 Our women team DLSWCC Wasps were scheduled to play KCC women’s team next and the Wasps were to bat first on a cloudy day. And they could only score 94 runs. Only Shanzeen Shahzad looked in good nick but when she was finally runout the others too followed her back in the hut. While it was a small total the girls fought back hard and made it difficult for KCC girls to score the runs. Mehreen 2/11, Maryam 1/12 and Shanzeen 1/20 bowled well in their allotted 4 overs but the pick of the bowlers was Akasha Yousaf who took 4 wickets for 22 runs in her 4 overs. But their efforts went in vain as the runs on the board were not enough.

Sunday Elite Division 1 Finally, the biggest match of the weekend between DLSWCC JKN and PACC was played at Mission road. The match was reduced to 40 overs a side due to the wet outfield.

JKN batted first and lost Amandeep for no runs on the board in the 2nd over. In came the captain Babar Hayat and he along with Hiren Patel scored 155 runs for the second wicket. Hiren the got out after scoring 66 runs. After that no one else supported Babar and he was left to do most of the batting on his own, only Shahid Wasif scored 28 notable runs. Babar then lost his wicket in the 38th over after having reached a personal milestone of scoring a massive innings of 152 runs. DLSWCC JKN scored 279/7 in their allotted overs.

Pakistan Association in response started their innings briskly and all their top order batsmen got into double figures having scored the runs at a good strike rate. With DLSWCC JKN’s shortcomings in bowling exposed the veteran Hussain Butt capitalized and scored 82 runs not out of 49 balls. In the end his knock was good enough for his team to win the match on D/L method having scored 262/4 in 31.2 overs.
