DLSW Knights become first ever Elite League Div. 2 Champions

DLSW Knights created history to become the first champions of the newly established Elite League Division 2. A recap of the last three games

Match 8: On May 1st 2017, the Knight got a chance to avenge their loss to HKCC Optimists. Needing to win all three games to win the league, the Knights were asked to field by Optimists after losing the toss. The Optimists were all out for 212 in 46 overs, Ghazanfar Mohammad taking 4 wickets for 32 runs while ever reliable Saqib Mahmood took 3 wickets for 26 runs in his 10 overs. The chase required the young and the experience to fire and Aftab Hussain showed his talent scoring 62 runs in 68 balls batting at number 4, and Moner Dar’s experienced and smashing 54 runs off 35 balls took Knights past the total in the 42nd over with 3 wickets in hand.

Match 9: Two days later on May 3rd at Mission Road, Knights faced Sri Lankan Cricket Club. Batting first Knights lost early wickets and managed to only post 182 all out. Aftab Hussain was the lead scorer for Knights with 56 runs. Sri Lanka Cricket Club won the game with 5 wickets to spare. This was a big setback for Knights and made their chance to win the league rather difficult.

Match 10: The final game of the season was played on May 7th against Vagabonds CC. Knights made no mistake in this game and won the toss and decided to bowl first at Mission Road. The Vagabonds were all out for only 103 runs. Ghazanfar picked up another 4 wickets. The Knights chased the title in 19 overs to ensure the bonus point, Moner Dar promoted himself to number 4 and smashed 42 runs off 27 balls.

The Knights had 32 Points on the table with Optimist ending with 31 and Sri Lanka Club with 28 points with one game in hand against Vagabonds. If Sri Lanka won that game with a bonus point they would win the league. However Vagabonds pull out a good win and handing Knights the League Title.
