DLSW Spartans come third in the League, missing out on Promotion

A quick recap on the journey of DLSW Spartan team in 2017 in Cricket Hong Kong's Championship League Division 2

Vs Laguna CC After a few months break and the first game in the new year was against Laguna Gully CC. Spartans won the toss and decided to bat first. Anik Shah impressed with the bat and scored 62 runs taking the Spartans score to 217 all out. The strong bowling attack of the Spartans once again strangled the runs and had the Laguna Team all out for 139 runs. Zulu taking 3 wickets for 25 runs.

Vs CCC Hung See The next game the Spartans won the toss and decided to bat again against CCC Hung See at PTS on March 18th. Hiren Patel smashed 90 runs and missed a centuring opening the batting and Sarjan star batsman Hari Virani also added 77 runs to take the score to 241/8 in 35 overs. The Hung See team were all out for 170 runs, struggling against the spin of Spartans

Vs SCC Lancers – Playoffs The first match of the playoffs the Spartans suffered a 52 run loss against SCC Lancers at PKVR Park on 25th March. Batting first the Lancers scored 235/6 in 35 overs. Mukesh Dholakiya picked up 3 wickets for 36 runs. The Spartans were all out for 183 runs, with Jignesh Babaria top scoring with 46 runs.

Vs DLSW Sarjan

The second game against DLSW Sarjan was also washed out

Vs Lamma CC The playoff game with Lamma CC was another setback with a loss of 4 wickets. Spartans won the toss and decided to bat but at Mission Road on 13th May, the team could only manage 126 runs all out as none of the batsmen were able to score a big innings. Anik Shah was the top scorer with 31 runs. Lamma CC chased the inning in the 18th over losing 6 wickets.

VS HKUCC The final game of the season was played at PKVR Park on 27th May 2017 against HKUCC. With the change of the league title beyond grasp, it was an opportunity for the Spartans to end the season with a win. Once again winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Hiren Patel took on the responsibly and had a fine captain’s innings of 74 Runs. None of the other batsman however were able to add anything significant and the final score was 153/9. The Spartan bowlers had to bowl well to defend this score and they bowling side responded by getting HKUCC all out for 141 runs and winning by 12 Runs.

DLSW Spartans ended 3rd on the points table. There have been marked improvements in the team from the pervious season and we look forward to their progress in the coming season.
