Wasps's double knock-out KCC over Diwali Weekend and Spartans celebrate a win!

DLSWCC celebrated Diwali with a number of wins for its teams. Leading the way were the ever improving ladies of DLSWCC with two wins over Kowloon Cricket Club in two different formats

DLSW Wasps

The Wasps had a double header against Kowloon Cricket Club last weekend. On Saturday 29th October 2016, the Wasps played Kowloon Cricket Club in a Twenty20 Cup game at Po Wong Village Road Reservoir Ground.

Kowloon Cricket Club won the toss and decided to bat first. Keenu Gill opened the batting with Reenu Gill and she was in decent form. She top scored with 35 runs for her team, however lacked support from rest of the players. The Wasps bowled good spells and shared the KCC wickets among the bowlers. Mahreen Yousf had the best figures of 2 wickets for 26 runs in her spell of 4 overs. KCC scored 105 for 6 in their 20 overs.

This was a competitive score and the Wasps had to bat well to win the game, however both in form batsman and openers Shanzeen and Manpreet lost their wickets early in the innings. It was up to Mahreen Yousf coming in at number 4 position scoring 36 runs and having good partnerships first with Jaswinder Kaur and then with Maryam Bibi to take the team close to the target

The DLSW Wasps won the game with 5 wickets to spare in the 18th Over.

The following day the two teams met for their first 35 over league match. The 35 Over is the Women's League and the Premier Women's Club Competition in Hong Kong played among 5 teams. This match was played at Kowloon Cricket Club and was a rare opportunity for the girls to play at this amazing venue.

Kowloon Cricket Club won the toss again and this time they decided to ask Wasps to bat first, hoping to change the outcome.

Wasp started their innings with Jaswinder and Manpreet opening the batting, Manpreet was out early LBW to Sidra for 3 runs. Jaswinder and Shanzeen shared a 77 run partnership off 46 balls bringing the score to 99/2 when Jaswinder got bowled to Sherina Mahtani for 21 runs. Shanzeen scored the bulk of the runs gaining 45 runs of 55 balls including 5 boundaries. The Wasps suffered a bit of a collapse from 99/2 to 117 for 7 losing 5 wickets for 18 runs. Shahzad Sharza and Iqra Zahid ensured to keep their wicket and bring the total to 136/7 in 35 overs.

The score wasn't a big one for 35 overs cricket, however with the confidence of the previous day the Wasps bowlers were ready to put up a fight. If the T20 match belonged to Mahreen, the star player at KCC was Maryam Bibi, picking up 6 wickets for 21 runs in 6.4 overs. Jaswinder Kaur also picked up 3 wickets for 22 runs ensuring the KCC batsmen struggled to score the runs. KCC fell short by 20 runs being all our for 116 runs in the 27th over.

This Wasps weekend has shown the Wasps have moved from being a competitive team to take a more dominating role in Women's Cricket Leagues.

DLSW Spartans

Spartans have now played the most games from any of the DLSW teams and their 6th game was against Lamma CC at Mission Road. Spartans won the toss and decided to put the Lamma team into bat.

The Spartans' main strength is their bowling and once again their bowlers stood up to the task. Anik Shah picked up 2 crucial wickets for 17 runs and also helped with the run out of Berrett, three of their top 4 fell to Anik. Harkishan Monpara picked up 3 more wickets for only 19 runs and the Lamma Cricket Club were all out for 155 runs. The Spartans once again struggled with their batting. With the team on 58 for 4 wickets during the 10th over. However this time Hari Virani contributed with 41 runs, but it was Anik Shah who came in at number 9 and ensured to stay not out till the end with 26 runs and take Spartans past the target with 1 wicket to spare in the 32nd over.

Fittingly Spartans had a firecraker of a game with this 1 wicket win against Lamma CC
