Spartans start off with a big win!
Saturday, 3rd September 2016, was the first game of Saturday League (now known as Championship League) and was played between DLSW SPARTANS and CENTAURS Cricket Club at Po Kwong Village Road Park with cloudy weather conditions.
Not repeating last season's mistakes captain Hiren Patel correctly called and won the toss and elected to field.
Bowlers obliged the captain's decision as SPARTANS had wonderful start from the opening bowler, Anik Shah who took 3 early wickets and restricting the Centaurs Batsman.
Just when a partnership was building for Centaurs, Zulu (Suresh Ghevariya) came to bowl and took the wicket on his very first ball. None of the other batsmen could stand and the opposition tumbled for small score of 93 runs, with Zulu taking 4 wickets, Anik with 3 wickets and Harkishan M Monpara and Hiren Sekhadiya sharing one wicket each.
Chasing the small target of 94 Spartans had slow start with opener Hiren Patel continuing his poor form and getting out on duck again and Pandey loosing his wicket after scoring few boundaries.
The two best hitters of Sarjan Group, Hari Virani (36) and Zulu (27) were on crease and they did what they do the best and smashed the bowlers in every part of the ground before getting out. Kishore Mangukiya and Dharmesh Patel ensured no further wicket fell and reached the winning total.
DLSW Spartans won the game easily in 16th over.
