DLSW WASPS’ Hard Work starts to pay off!

DLSW Wasps Team has been training hard off season in order to make a real impact this season. Last year ended with the Women’s Team winning the Women’s Sixes Tournament. This year the girls are aiming for victories in the longer format. Playing in the clubs new orange colors of the club, the Wasps had to play two tough games first up in the first two round of the HKCA Women’s Twenty20 Cup Competition.

Date: 6th September 2015 vs HKCC Willow Wielders

The first match of the season was against HKCC Willow Wielders, champions of the Women’s League for the last three seasons. The Wasps won the toss and the captain Shanzeen Shahzad decided to Bowl first. The opening bowling pair of Shenzeen and Yousaf Mehreen attacked the opening batsman and took early wickets to have HKCC team at 16 runs for the lose of 4 wickets. It was up to HKCC’s Marina Lamplough who held the HKCC innings together with 42 runs. The DLSW side has been working on their bowling and restricted the HKCC side to 109 runs all out in 19.2 overs.

However the batting needed more work as DLSW Wasps struggled to score the required runs and were all out for 61 runs in 19.6 overs.

Result: HKCC Willow Wilders 109 all out (M Lamplough 42*, S Shahzad 2/27, Y Mehreen 2/7, Y Akasha 2/11, J Kaur 2/25) beat DLSW Wasps 61/8 (All out) (Y Mehreen 20, K Gibbions 2/11, M Hill 2/13) by 48 runs. [Scorecard]

Date: 13th September 2015 vs KCC Maidens

In their second match the Wasps also only had 9 players on the field, and the toss was won by KCC Maidens and they put DLSW Wasps to Bat. Jaswinder Kaur and Shanzeen Shahzad opened the batting and put on 33 runs when Jaswinder was caught by Pena of Sidra Nasreen’s bowling for 11 runs. Mahreen then joined Shahzad and together they put on an incredible 121 run partnership. Shanzeen got 65 runs and Mehreen got 61 runs and that helped to post DLSW Wasps’ highest score of 161/3 in T20 Cricket

With runs to defend the opening pair of Shanzheen and Mahreen bowled with tight lines to restrict the KCC batting. Shanzeen was rewarded with 2 wickets. While the KCC running between the wickets was not up to their normal standard resulting in 3 run outs. The KCC Maidens at the end of 20 overs were 97 for 7 wickets and giving DLSWCC their first win over KCC maidens in T20 League.

Result: DLSWCC Wasps 161/3 (Shanzeen 65, Mehreen 61) beat KCC Maidens 97 for 7 wickets by 64 runs [Scorecard]
